Dress Appropriately:
Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes with a small heel (like boots). A helmet is a must.
Approach Safely:
Always approach a horse from the side where it can see you, and speak calmly to let it know you're there. Avoid the "blind spots" directly in front and behind.
Master the Basics:
Learn how to properly hold the reins, sit in the saddle, and give basic cues for stop, go, and turn before you try to trot or canter.
Listen to Your Guide:
If you're on a trail ride, pay close attention to the guide's instructions about spacing and terrain.
Keep a Safe Distance:
Maintain at least one horse's length between you and the horse in front of you.
Thank Your Horse:
After your ride, always give your horse a gentle pat on the neck to say "thank you." A treat (if allowed) is always appreciated!
